Zen Escalator | Dave Leith & Lee Hutzulak

Zen Escalator is an electronic music project comprised of Lee Hutzulak (Vancouver) & Dave Leith (Galiano). The two utilize a select mix of synthesizers and samplers to create atmospheric soundscapes, detailed with peculiar noises and earworm arpeggios. At the Yellowhouse Art Centre they will be performing live to Lee’s surreal video art, taking the audience on a meditative journey from the busy chaos of the city, through the dynamic flux of rocky island beaches, and landing in the quiet of an early morning meadow.

Lee Hutzulak’s current interest in live electronic music performance coincided with the rebirth (circa 2012) and the subsequent golden age of accessible analog synths, drum machines, and samplers. Inspired by Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, and more experimental artists like Brian Eno, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Pierre Schaeffer, Hutzulak began creating original music utilizing these new instruments to forge new directions from past legacies.
