About the event
Join us for a music intensive on Friday June 28 + Saturday June 29, 11 am -1pm with ages 7-12 and at 2 pm-4 pm with ages 12+
Long-time musician, facilitator and song maker Justin Khuong is delighted to come and spend a weekend making music with the youth of Galiano at the Yellowhouse Art Centre. Join us in musical exploration with instruments and sounds, and possibly even sounds of the island itself, to create songs as a group over two days. All levels of musical experience and instruments are welcome (including those with no experience). Bring your instruments, your voice, and let’s make some music together!
Justin Khuong has been a professional musician and music educator for 20 years, and has spent the last seven years honing his skills in facilitating multi-instrumental music discovery sessions for youth with the Sarah McLachlan School of Music. He pairs musical exploration and curiosity with on-the-spot songwriting and a natural levity. Naturally curious and inquisitive, Justin has a fascination with relationships, with nature, with ourselves, as well as memories and the human experience. He explores these parts of life, and what it means to be alive, through the medium of music.
This event is being held on the unceded, shared traditional territories of Penelakut, Lamalcha, Hwitslum and other Hul’qumi’num and SENĆOŦEN speaking peoples, Coast Salish Peoples of Galiano, as well as the ceded territories of Tsawwassen First Nation, on what is now known as Galiano Island.
We are grateful for the generousity of CRD Arts and Culture, BC Arts Council and Province of BC.
