About the event
This is a long-term weekly art project geared towards youth 12 years and older.
It is an open studio concept project with a focus on Public Art, led by Jimena DeMiguel.
Starting Friday May 5th, we will meet most Fridays 2-4 pm.
The fee is $15 per session / $60 per month (Suggested, PWYC) *We need at least 4 participants to run the workshop.
Regular attendance is highly encouraged in order to develop a full scope understanding of Public Art, its history, its people, its spaces, its mediums, and materials. Ongoing participation will also allow the youth to develop the confidence needed to execute public art and walk away from it for the general public to enjoy, criticize, point at, share, and talk about.
Youth will be exposed to the wide range of public art and will share with the group public art pieces they have encountered or are drawn to through photography (i-phones) as a digital visual presentation (incorporating music, sound, effects, projection, etc.)
This workshop is being held on the unceded stolen traditional territories of Penelakut, Lamalcha, Hwitslum and other Hul’qumi’num speaking peoples as well as the ceded territories of Tsawwassen First Nation, on what is now known as Galiano Island.
