Magnetic Sound Workshop

MAGNETIC SOUND, a tape sound workshop for youth centred on 1/4 inch reel to reel audio tape recording and effects. Beginning with a talk introducing the concept and mechanisms of ¼ inch magnetic recording tape, the cohort will be offered hands-on exploratory and educational play with techniques such as creating a tape delay and sending signal from a microphone through it while manually controlling the delay amount and intensity. We will make a super long tape loop together that will stretch across the room, explore tape saturation, tape distortion, playing sounds backwards and at various speeds and more. With hands on access to reel to reel ¼ inch recording tape to crunch and stretch to experience first hand this rare and exciting technology.
