About the event
Building on the previous Islanders project in 2024, Coast Salish and Sahtu Dene storyteller and artist Rosemary Georgeson and photographer Donna Usher continue their three-part series with Islanders II: Settlers to Galiano - Arrival Stories. After Islanders: Galiano’s First People captured portraits and stories of the island’s Indigenous community—drawing on Georgeson’s Galiano roots and Usher’s lifelong family ties—the new phase turns to descendants of the island’s first settlers, whose names grace its roads and landmarks. Through portraits and personal narratives, the project will document key historical events and explore settler history, while continuing to centre Indigenous perspectives to foster a deeper understanding of Galiano’s past.
The exhibition will be opening on Friday August 21, at 3pm.
The gallery will be open Thursday - Sunday 11 - 4.
There will be storytelling events, school visits & gathering series at the Yellowhouse until the closing ceremonies on the National Truth and Reconciliatio…
