About the event

I Will Do Dishes After I Read Poetry in a Field

A memorial retrospective exhibition of work by Shayne Weston Abbott - Arcan {May 27, 2000 – February 27, 2025}

Yellowhouse Art Centre, Galiano Island June 6–15, 2025

Opening Reception Friday June 6, 4pm - 8pm

Shayne Weston Abbott-Arcan—known to his family and friends as Weston—passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 27, 2025, while out for a walk. He was just 24 years old and in the final term of completing his BFA at Emily Carr University.

Weston’s art was a space where he could speak in ways words often couldn’t. His work moved fluidly between the comical and the surreal, the angelic and the macabre. He created fantastical worlds and dreamlike spaces filled with hybrid beings—part-human, part-creature, part-memory. He had a gift for making visible the contradictions and internal dramas of being human—struggle, fragmentation, transformation, beauty.
